Hogzilla - A li'l bit about the band
Hilary formed Hogzilla in 2006 after playing on the bluegrass scene in NYC at places like the Baggot Inn, Parkside Lounge, Paddy Reilly's and Freddy's Backroom. Hilary's voice and style have been described as soulful and strikingly sincere. And paired with bandmate Mimi Lavalley their tight harmonies draw upon influences from the Carter Family, Bill Monroe, Hazel and Alice, Bob Dylan, Flatt and Scruggs, and Hank Williams. Hogzilla has typically been the crowd favorite at shows and Hawke's banjo playing has been reviewed in such sources as Sing Out magazine, Alt-Country.org, Banjo Newsletter.
Hogzilla's music really reaches for the soul, but with a lot of playful energy, songs you won't forget!"- Malta, Ezine articles
Hogzilla's appeal comes from the way they connect with the audience. Great, sincere original tunes, and tried and true country and bluegrass covers done well!
Recently Hogzilla's fanbase has taken off due to their consistent residencies at local drinking holes, Bait and Tackle and Sunny's bar in the up and coming hip area of Red Hook, Brooklyn.
Great friends play with Hogzilla from time to time, and the hogz can never say enough Thank You's! Hilary grew up in upstate NY, Mimi in Pittsburgh, and Mike in Ohio.
